SFB/TRR 339 Fall Conference

In the third year of the SFB/TRR 339, the fall meeting took place “in the middle” of both project locations Aachen and Dresden. From November 6 to 8, all project participants met in Künzell, near Fulda. This year's project meeting served to further define the profile of the SFB and the “Digital Twin Road”.
The development of a digital shadow of the road system, as a preliminary stage of the end product digital twin, is the declared goal of the next funding period to be applied for. To this end, the sub-models will be merged into a holistic model, which in turn requires common, standardized interfaces. These must already be considered and designed within the current phase of the project. Therefore, the focus of this year's event was on the collaborations between the individual subprojects. In addition to the interdisciplinary working groups that have already been established, since September of this year, work has also been done on several joint projects to demonstrate the research results already obtained. These concepts and the synergies between the individual research fields were discussed in detail. The construction of a demonstrator at the Aldenhoven Testing Center is also planned for the coming funding period. First ideas for its design and the interaction with the individual subprojects were already developed during the three days, and further concept details will be finalized at the next meeting in the spring.
We would like to thank all participants for their active engagement in the discussions and for enriching the very successful event with their contributions. The discussions and the interactions during the meeting provided important impulses for the further focus and development of the SFB/TRR 339.
