Research stay at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada

Simon Schäfer, PhD candidate, Project B03
During the summer of 2024, I had the privilege of staying at the Networked Optimization, Diagnosis, and Estimation (NODE) Lab at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Located on the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton is the northernmost city in North America, with a population of over a million people.
The lab, led by Prof. Ehsan Hashemi, is situated in a research area focused on perception in automated driving applications. During my stay at NODE Lab, I collaborated with researchers from around the world to design and research a roadside perception system.
My time at NODE Lab significantly improved my English language skills and provided me with valuable insights into the research and cultural landscape from various parts of the world. Additionally, I had the opportunity to explore the breathtaking countryside of Canada, which is unmatched compared to anything in central Europe.
The ongoing collaboration with Prof. Hashemi will lead to additional publications, and it has already sparked additional research exchanges with one of our master’s students.
